Some Bread for You

Yep, it’s official. I am a lover of older music. Try out Bread today, readers. I can’t promise that all of these songs will be to your taste, but they are certainly worth sampling. And yes, those puns were deliberate. 😉

Have fun savoring the music!

Brave-ly Done (More Disney Music)

Every child is influenced by the entertainment they are shown. I am fortunate in that I saw many Disney movies as a child. I do not like every Disney movie out there, but most of them are hard to dislike. After all, Walt Disney was not in the habit of writing trash. He was one of those rare entertainers who earned money as a reward for telling a good story, not telling any old story just to make a dollar. *Sigh.* We could use a few more storytellers like that these days!

Anyway, readers, here are some more Disney songs which I would like to share with you. I hope you enjoy them! After all, it’s…

   I Hear America Singing

by Walt Whitman

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,
Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe
and strong,
The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam,
The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off
work,
The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deck-
hand singing on the steamboat deck,
The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing
as he stands,
The woodcutter’s song, the ploughboy’s on his way in the morn-
ing, or at noon intermission or at sundown,
The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work,
or of the girl sewing or washing,
Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else,
The day what belongs to the day—at night the party of young
fellows, robust, friendly,
Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.

American Soldier

This is a song by Toby Keith.  It is one which I think I may have known of for some time, though I did not learn the title for it until relatively recently.

The video that goes with the song tends to bring tears to my eyes when I watch it.  I love the United States military to pieces, especially the Navy and the Marines.  What can I say? Jarheads and Squids are AMAZING!!!  The SEALs are, too, of course.  I can’t forget them.  😉

But the scene in this video that I especially enjoy is the shot of the Doughboy as he takes the crucifix he is wearing around his neck, kisses it, then puts it down his shirt front before charging over the trench wall.  It makes my eyes water every time.

I hope you enjoy the video and the song, readers.  God bless America, God bless our troops, and God bless you!

Who Will?

This is one of my favorite songs.  It comes from An American Tail IV: The Mystery of the Manhattan Night Monster.  The film, by Universal Studios, is also one of my favorites.  It is a reminder that “if we don’t fight for what’s right” then “who will?”

The video below contains the full song, but the images are fan-made by the same person who made the video.  There is no other video yet on the Internet which records the song.  Not that I can find, anyway.

Enjoy!

Lyrics for “Who Will?”

Nellie: If you don’t lend a hand

When a hand needs lending

Who will?

Fievel: If you don’t help your friends

When they need befriending

Who will?

When nothing goes right

And everything’s wrong…

When the days are too cold,

And the nights are too long?

Nellie: If you won’t be there to stand and be strong…

Nellie & Fievel: Who will?

Tony: If you don’t risk your neck

When a risk needs takin’ –

Who will?

If you don’t break the rules

When the rules need breakin’ –

Who will?

You’ve gotta be tough!

Nellie: And forthright and square!

Tiger: You can’t hide your head,

And pretend you’re not there!

Fievel: If we don’t fight for what’s right and what’s fair…

Who will?

Nellie: Everyone has a hero, hiding deep inside

Waiting to appear…

But there is no time left to hide!

The moment is now, the place is here!

Tony: Who will risk life and limb,

Just to help a stranger?

I will!

Fievel: Who will walk through the dark

Even though there’s danger?

I will!

Who’ll stay by your side?

Tony: And take up the cause?

Tiger: Who’ll give you his strength, his heart, and his paws?

Tony: Who’ll be your back-up?

Tiger: Your buddy?

Fievel: Your friend?

Fievel, Tony, & Tiger: We will.

Fievel: Fievel

Nellie: And Nellie

Tony: And Tony

Tiger: And Tiger

ALL: We will.

Favorite Artist: Jim Croce

Jim Croce was a big hit once upon a time. I have heard that he died in a plane crash, but I could have my information mixed up. In any event, I have enjoyed his music for several years now. Today’s post list some of the songs he wrote and performed which I like most.

If you think Jim Croce is “so yesterday,” then remember this: someday we will be “sooo yesterday!” One does not cock one’s hat at time. It will be blown off of one’s head – before or after one has turned to dust!

See ya around!

Favorite Artist: Petula Clark

A little girl with a big voice. That is how someone I know described Petula Clark. I only know and love four of her songs, but that is good enough for me at the moment. The lady does have a superb, beautiful voice. If you check out the videos below, you will see what I mean, readers. Or, rather, hear what I mean!

The videos were chosen for their sound quality rather than their actual content, so you do not have to watch them if you do not want to. Just listen…and enjoy!
